Goulandris Natural History Museum

It was established in 1965 in order to promote science, education and the protection of endangered species and habitats in the country. It contains collections of animals, shells, minerals, rocks and fossils covering the fossil of Greece. Hundreds of visitors, mostly students are trained every day with the primary objective of shaping environmental conscience. Both at the exhibition halls of the Natural History Museum, and the Gaia Centre, the professional staff of the museum guides visitors and provides useful information on everything of Planet Earth, from its creation up to nowadays! Significant research for collecting, recording and study of botanical, zoological, geological and paleontological national wealth of the country, continues into the laboratories and constantly updates collections. Furthermore, by opening the Gaia Center two more excellently equipped laboratories of Ecology Soil and Biotechnology and Bioanalytical Chemistry, were added to the research of natural resources that support life: soil, water, atmosphere, related to nutrition and health. The museum also has a library of scientific publications relating to naturalistic science, two cafe-bars and halls suitable for conferences, lectures, seminars and company presentations. Opening hours: Tuesday to Friday: 9:00 to 14:30 / Saturday and Sunday: 10: 00-15: 00.
