The National Museum of Contemporary Art presents a series of exhibitions on the question "What if women ruled the world?", inspired by the work of Yael Bartana. Initiated by Artistic Director Katerina Grego, it explores the implications of female governance in the world, highlighting questions about violence, justice, rights and economic policy. Through art, a possible image of a more caring and compromising world is sought.

West Africa is "ground zero" for vulnerable communities facing a deadly mix of climate crisis, rising food prices, and trafficking. Despite these challenges, the region produces two-thirds of the world's cocoa and houses 12 of Africa's most significant UNESCO monuments.
In 2023, the NGO GREEN PROJECT,completed its 8th "green photographic journey," covering 4,074 km across Ivory Coast, Ghana, Togo, Benin, and Nigeria. They visited 12 organic cocoa plantations, 10 UNESCO sites, and 1 renewable energy installation, sharing the daily lives of cocoa farmers like those.
These farmers care for their land wisely, embodying a philosophy of sustainability that permeates every aspect of their lives, from nature management and social relationships to personal identity.
Founded in 2008 by volunteer scientists and artists, GREEN PROJECT has conducted 8 "green photographic journeys" under the patronage of the Hellenic National Commission for UNESCO. These journeys have spanned Asia, Africa, Europe, South America, the Ionian Sea, Australia, Madagascar, and West Africa, aiming to raise social awareness through environmental photography as a vehicle for change.
A total of 61 experts traversed 82,699 km and 809 nautical miles in 51 countries using 13 low-emission vehicles, 1 sailboat, and public transport. Photographers involved include Yiannis Tzortzis, Nikos Vitis, Vasiliki Kasoumi, Angelos Katsagelos, Katerina Batzaki, Akis Sarantopoulos, Alexandros Skouras, and Yiannis Sfendourakis.

The Acropolis Museum invites visitors to explore the Archaic Acropolis Gallery and discover the unique collection of Archaic statues that still retain – some a little, others a lot – their original colours.  
The exhibition program “Archaic Colours” was launched in July 2012, kicking off a broad discussion among technical specialists and the general public concerning paints, their scanning with new technologies, their experimental use on marble surfaces, their digital restoration, and the original significance and aesthetic perception of colour in the Archaic era.

The National Gallery's major exhibition, "Democracy," runs from July 11, 2024, to February 2, 2025, commemorating 50 years since Greece's democratic restoration in 1974. Showcasing 140 works by 55 artists, the exhibition features paintings, posters, video projections, and performances, highlighting the transition from authoritarian rule to democracy in Greece, Spain, and Portugal. Following the acclaimed "Urbanography" retrospective, "Democracy" promises another captivating experience. Additionally, visitors can glimpse the transformation of The Hilton Athens into The Ilisian, a new landmark destination in Athens.

The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies, in collaboration with the Chicago Athenaeum, Museum for Architecture and Design, present the group art exhibition entitled: "The Athenians, Short Stories of Art (Vol II)." Opening: Friday, July 12 at 6:30 p.m. at the European Centre-Contemporary Space Athens, 74 Mitropoleos Street, Plaka. The aim of the exhibition is for the artists to tell visitors short stories they have captured on canvas, clay, paper, with a taste and aroma of the city of Athens. The artists take part in the exhibition in alphabetical order: Varsamouli Gianna, Veroutis Konstantinos, Demopoulou Ioanna, Zafiris Stella, Zotali Vivian, Karalias Ioannis, Kontaroudis Christos, Lazarou Athanasia, Mihos Athanasios, Bigali Mata, Papa Maria, Papa Stella, Maria Vlasseros Art.

Five visual artists come together in a competitive world to retrieve memories, recreate by their own rules and discover new artistic paths. Through frequent meetings, they exchange views and knowledge, creating a common canvas without inhibitions. Each member draws from different fields-personal experiences, current affairs, science and technology. This unique relay, where each artist paints over the previous work, leads to the exhibition "Encounters," bringing together five different worlds on the same piece of paper.

The Coumantaros Art Gallery invites expatriates and foreign summer visitors to a guided tour of the temporary exhibition “Lakonian Artists from the Collections of the National Art Gallery.” Curated by Monika Diamanti, the tour provides insights into the life and work of eleven Laconian artists, many of whom have lived abroad. The artists include Steven Antonakos, Chios Theodoros, Chrysa (Bardea), Ilias Dekoulakos, Thalia Diplarakou, Michalis Lekakis, Michalis Nikolinakos, Giorgos Rorris, Leon Roubos, Theodoros Stamos, and Vasos Faliresa. The tour is included in the ticket price and runs every Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday at 12:00 noon.

State of Concept will inaugurate the group exhibition Care Ecologies, on Wednesday 10 July at 19:00, as part of the CARE ECOLOGIES project, a collaboration between the G. & A. Mamidakis Foundation, What, How & for Whom / WHW, Idensitat, State of Concept and the Centre for New Media and Feminist Practices in Public Space / KNMFP.

The exhibition explores how care manifests in contemporary society, provoking a collective rethinking of cultural practices as acts of care. Featuring works by Adelita Husni-Bey, Fokus grupa, Hana Miletić, Thodoris Prodromidis and Idensitat, it examines the notion of claiming care as a critical strategy that could potentially be applied in broader social contexts - care as solidarity and sustainability, care as a capacity to build well-being, care and work, sharing resources and knowledge, care as a mechanism for repairing fragile social structures.

The Archipelagos Network presents for the first time in Athens the rich and multidimensional maritime tradition of the Cyclades through the multi-media exhibition Arts of the Sea, which will take place from 4 July to 21 September at the Goethe-Institut Athens.

Celebrating the 70th anniversary of the Epidaurus Festival's start in 1954 with Euripides' "Hippolytus," the Epidaurus exhibition space, opened in 2023 with the Ministry of Culture's support, hosts a special exhibition on Hippolytus and Phaedra. Open during performances at the Argolic theatre, it features costumes, masks, models, scores, and audiovisual material, highlighting the iconic roles over 69 years. The myth of Phaedra's tragic love for Hippolytus, her stepson, is explored through valuable artifacts from various cultural archives.

This summer, AthensRocks presents the ultimate music festival featuring Queens of the Stone Age at the Athens Olympic Complex on Saturday, July 27th. Formed by Joshua Homme in the 1990s, QOTSA have become rock icons with their diverse music and enduring popularity. Known for hits like “No One Knows” and “Go with the Flow,” their live performances are legendary. The current lineup, including Homme, Troy Van Leeuwen, Michael Shuman, Dean Fertita, and Jon Theodore, promises an unforgettable night. Join us as Athens rocks to the legendary sounds of QOTSA, marking a historic musical event.

Christos Thanos, in collaboration with Panagiotis Gikas, Stefanos Douvitsas, and Penelope Skalkotou, creates a special musical work, guided by the symbolic poem by Vladimir Mayakovsky, translated by Yannis Ritsos.
The performance is accompanied by an animated video by Stefanos Barbalias inspired by this work.

Sugar For The Pill is a Shoegaze - Dream Pop band that was formed in 2020 in Athens, Greece.
Their debut album "Wanderlust" was released in March 2022 by Shelflife Records (USA) and Make Me Happy Records (GR) and the vinyl edition sold out in two months.
They have performed several concerts at home and abroad and are currently in the studio recording their second album.

Moonmoth was formed in 2022 and their music, full of strange dark sounds with emotional interludes, can be described as theatrical dark pop. They combine the acoustic sound of classical guitar with the electronic soundscapes of synths to create an ambient and dreamy atmosphere. The lyricism of the dual female vocals, in a primal symphony with evocative minimal beats and ritualistic guitar harmonies, seduce the listener towards a sonic place of sacrifice and rebirth.

Universe217 have evolved into one of the most important Greek bands in the field of hard sound, forming a clearly personal style and showing that they have a restless spirit.
Having so far recorded 4 full-length albums (Universe217, 2007 / Familiar Places, 2011 / Never, 2013 / Change, 2016), two EPs (II, 2009 / Ease, 2014) and a live recording (Live, 2017), Universe217 have performed a series of important shows in Greece and abroad, either as headliners or as special guests, being a band that likes to constantly challenge itself creatively.

Electric Litany return to Athens on July 29, 2024 for an enjoyable night of music, as part of their new project "9PM". An experience designed to bring live music to unexpected parts of the city, combining the energy of music with the magical cityscape of Athens. He is joined by the mysterious Johnny Labelle, who invites us into his dark, inner and romantic world.

Andreas Mitrelis is a DJ, producer, and owner of Veego Records. A true music lover, collector and compiler who blends various music genres in his DJ sets: from psych folk to afro funk and disco. He studied Music Production in London and started Djing in the late 90’s. Since then, he has played music in fashion shows and clubs in London, Sonar, private parties, and festivals. He is also part of the DJ duo “Greece Goes Modern”.

The Storyville Ragtimers, on Wednesday 31 July, will present a great tribute to Louis Armstrong entitled "Black & Blue" at the "Rematia Festival".
Duke Ellington used to say that if one man deserves to be called "Mr. Jazz" it is none other than Louis Armstrong and not without reason, Pops as his friends used to call him lived a parallel life with this music, was born with it and practically within a decade turned it from a popular music into a global phenomenon.
The Storyville Ragtimers will present a historical retrospective from the beginning to the peak of his vast career.

Finally, Placebo returns to Lycabettus on August 1st. Those who were there on that magical night in September 2003 know the unique energy of the "Placebo Effect" over the horizon of Athens. With memories from their first appearance at Rockwave in 1999, Placebo has visited Greece over 10 times, creating magical moments. Brian Molko and Stefan Olsdal continue to be captivated by their music and energy, offering unforgettable nights at every performance.

On August 2, 2024, AthensRocks presents Lenny Kravitz at the Athens Olympic Complex for an unforgettable evening. With nearly 40 years in the industry, Kravitz remains one of the greatest rock artists, blending rock, soul, funk, and pop in his music. From "Let Love Rule" to "Raise Vibration," he has captivated audiences with his musical prowess and explosive stage presence. Anticipating his new album "Blue Electric Light," Kravitz's performance at AthensRocks promises a unique rock experience in Athens this summer.

Pene – aka Thanasis Besinis –is one of the most active DJs in Athens and in his DJ sets he can mix seemingly unrelated musical genres from dub, cosmic, Balearic and disco to post rock, dark pop and electronic oddities and everything in between. He is the one half of Professional Crap Dancers, Deaf Ears Disco Cult and Long Distance, owner of Reigning clothing and co-owner of Radar bar. He has been playing music for sweaty basements and sun-drenched rooftops for the last 20 years or so as well as bringing international guests to Athens such as Sean Johnston (ALFOS), Balearic Mike, Kelvin Andrews, Ray Mang, Soft Rocks, Make A Dance, Haules Baules, Phillip Gorbachev, Bell Towers, Pete Herbert & Dicky Trisco. Moreover, Pene was the opening act at the concerts of Moderat, Chemical Brothers and David Holmes. 

Michalis Kamakas is a journalist, radio producer at Kosmos 93.6, DJ, and director. He is the creator of the podcast series "Gig time," which deals with the history of the most important live shows, festivals, and venues from around the world. He is also the producer and host of the session series "Urban live sounds," an insert of his show "Urban sounds" on Kosmos 93.6, which gives a platform to new artists from the local scene to present their work. Recently, his documentary "Armani the Vlachs" premiered at the Thessaloniki Documentary Festival.

At 21:30 on the EMST Rooftop, Kallirrois & Amv. Frantzi Av., the 1980 film "Gloria," directed by John Cassavetes, will be screened. Starring Gena Rowlands, John Adames, Buck Henry, and Julie Carmen. Tsemeli collaborates with major festivals and cultural venues, contributing to visibility and equality. Nominated for a GIWA award in 2021, she has written an electronic music column for LiFO since 2014.

Stefania Morozini returns on September 15th to Mikro Kerameikos for a concert, which, as the title itself says, will be full of intense emotions. With the theme of love as her central theme, she will take her audience on a journey through melodies dressed sometimes in joyful and festive colors and sometimes in melancholic colors, through jazz, soul, chanson, and pop sounds that we all have come to love. From Ella Fitzgerald, Cole Porter, and Etta James to Edith Piaf, Dalida, Charles Aznavour and many others, we will be transported to other eras; from the jazz bars of New York to the streets of Paris, we will dream and indulge in the warm, sensual melodies that emerge from the multifaceted feeling of love that always lends itself to different interpretations. Stefania Morozini is accompanied by her band consisting of the excellent musicians Harry Botsi on piano, Thodoris Christodoulou on drums, and Manos Loutas on bass.

The Grammy-winning group Tinariwen, known as the "bluesmen of the desert" and one of the world's top bands, will perform in Athens on Thursday, September 19, 2024, at the Lycabettus Theatre. They will bring the magic of the Sahara to the stage, captivating the audience with their unique sound. Joining them is Grammy-winning musician Bombino, a leading Tuareg artist and one of the world's most charismatic guitarists. On Sunday 21 July, ERT's Contemporary Music Orchestra presents a retrospective of its seventy-year career, a tribute to its creators, the great musicians who have served it, as well as the composers, arrangers, singers, actors, and soloists who have honored it with their collaboration.

The stars are shining under the Acropolis! The top dancers from the world's greatest ballets are coming to the Herodesion on Sunday 22 September to give us a unique evening of modern and classical ballet repertoire. A dreamy evening that will include a panorama of choreographies featuring the masterpieces of the greatest choreographers. The ATHENS COFFEE FESTIVAL, the biggest coffee festival in Greece, will welcome all those who love good coffee, on September 28-30, in one of the most iconic places of the city, Technopolis of the Municipality of Athens!

From Japan to Europe, Septicflesh has toured for two decades, achieving global success. With 9 albums and numerous world tours, they are signed with Nuclear Blast Records. Their latest album, "Modern Primitive," was well-received. In 2021, Berklee College of Music included scores from 4 of their compositions in its library. Their live shows are renowned for their theatricality and incorporation of Greek culture. The 8th Classic Rock event at the Herodeion will feature a crossover with the Athens State Orchestra. This project, previously presented in Mexico, promises a unique spectacle, organized by Robin 4 Arts.
