It is exactly what its name says of • a roof for the Letters and the Arts, an affordable cultural multiplex for people of all ages. With a mission to show all the aspects of the contemporary artistic activity, the culture, the lifelong learning and the promotion of Greek artists, the nonpareil cultural center gives to its guests the opportunity to enjoy theater, dance, music, cinema, opera, lectures and art events. The monumental building of the Onassis Cultural Centre at Syngrou Avenue (next to the building of the Hellenic General Insurance Company and opposite Panteion University), was founded in 2000 and built at the sole expense and supervision of the Onassis Foundation, while it was inaugurated in December 2010, marking a new era for the cultural events in Athens. With main characteristics the Doric austerity and postmodern aesthetics, it is an excellent example of modern architecture and a real gem in Athens. The complex includes Central Theatrical Stage "Aristotle Onassis", with a capacity of 880 seats, suitable for theatrical performances, symphony orchestra, opera, dance, cinema, lectures and conferences, the small scene "Christina Onassis’' with 220 seats, ideal for theater, music or dance performances, lectures and special screenings (multimedia, virtual reality), the exhibition center "Alexandros Onassis", the award-winning Hytra restaurant, outdoor dining area, bar, outdoor theater and underground parking.
